OSCARS!!! - Why do I care?

Why do I care so much about the Oscars?
I don't get paid to watch 'em, I don't make money if my favourites win and I certainly don't work in the industry, so why do I care so much about who wins and who loses???

I guess being a movie fan for most of my life has something to do with it. Making a few homemade flicks as a high school kid and a few when I was in college has sort of given me an inside look at the wonderful world of movie making. You kind of get to know how difficult it is to make one of these so called masterpieces. Starting with Super 8 home made jobbies, then BETAMAX (yes I know, I am way old), then VHS, then the better 3/4" tape and now HI-DEF on Hard Drives and Flash Memory.
Dealing with actors, sound, lighting, budgets, equipments issues, continuity (there are Always "MIKSTAKES"), food, Chainsaws, fake blood (I think it was fake) etc.......
I wouldn't trade it for the world btw.
Going from making silly Horror flicks to shooting wedding videos (made some good coin doing that - but got sick of that "Going to the Chapel" song, that I used in all of my post production, it was gonna make me blow my head off using a sling shot) to finally shooting my newborn baby girls :). That was a pretty amazing experience. I get a kick out of looking at that footage every once in a while (it's even MORE FUNNER watching it with them). Now I have them doing their own horror movies (remember Candy Cane MAN! - that was spooky and the killer was real scary - right old Dal and old James??).

Where am I going with all this??? I guess what I'm really trying to say is, I care so much about the OSCARS because I wish I could hear the following: "The Best Director OSCAR goes to ........................... JOE TENN for "ZOMBROS"!!
I CARE so much because I want to be part of that INSANE WORLD!!
The envelope is now sealed till next time.

  1. You know... it's never too late! I just sat and watched the sappiest (or maybe lamest) movie ever "Road to Rodanthe" but the key message is there well, it's never too late, but saying it again is kinda totally lame like the movie. But the message here is follow your dreams and keep on rolling the camera! You never know where it could take you!
